Reading Notes: Sita Sings the Blues

Part A
Sita Sings The Blues by: Nina Paley

Reading Notes:

It takes out all the pretext of the Ramayana. For example when Rama was about to be crowned King, his father says ...But my evil scheming wife...just reminded me of a boon I made.

Also, it was funny how when it was explained that Rama's father had been healed by his wife...it showed his wife in a modern day nursing uniform

Funny, this is funny. It reminds me of the show  Drunk History or something.
So there are these friends who are trying to remember the story of the Ramayana, and while they are telling the story, the animation is portraying what they are saying, so as they mess up, and back-track, so does the animation. quite entertaining.

I like how the animation style changes when Sita sings the blues.
At times, during the more animated animation it tells the story, instead of through the voices of the 3 friends. Example, when Hanuman's tail caught the city of Lanka on fire, was portrayed during a song, not narration.

I wonder what Nina's intentions were for this film. I find it hilarious. You have 3 narrators, who may be friends, or co-talk show host, or God's retelling the story. Most of which they slightly disagree on, but in a nice way.
At 41:00 you have a monkey doing a very interesting and funny "side-step dance". She has turned a drama into a comedy almost, and its very entertaining.
